I was an anxious kid. I worried all the time. I worried in the hope that by worrying my worries wouldn’t come true. When I later learned that there was a therapeutic profession that could help people to share their stories and feel better I dreamed of how one day I might be able to help people in that way.
My creative talent and passion took me in the direction of a Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (2000) at York University and a career in film and television as an assistant director & development co-ordinator. My adventurous and playful side decided to embark on an adventure vacation aboard a 96foot tall-ship called the HM Bark Endeavour with fifty-five other people that sailed around the world. I was offered a permanent job as a watch leader and spent the next 4 years sailing around the world teaching people how to sail a tall ship. Looking back my time on board the ship was a true test of my interpersonal skills living in such extreme conditions. In 2008 my curiosity and love for helping others encouraged me to become a 300 hour Jivamukti Certified yoga and mindfulness teacher, and it continues to inspire me to learn more about neuroscience and the mind-body connection. Working as a Birth Doula my nurturing presence supported dozens of women and their families through the emotional, physical and psychological highs and lows of pregnancy, labour, birth and early postpartum.
I’m incredibly grateful for each one of these previous careers and experiences that supported me to eventually complete a graduate degree at the Toronto Art Therapy Institute and become the therapist that I believed in as a child. As a Professional Art Therapist I weave that creativity, playfulness, curiosity and presence into every therapeutic relationship and as a human being who was once a child consumed with worry and anxiety I also bring a great deal of empathy and compassion.
As a member of Canada's art therapy and psychotherapy associations I am guided by a Code of Ethics and by Standards of Professional Practice. I am a professional member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA), and am currently applying as a qualifying member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO). I was previously a registered member of the Canadian Yoga Alliance (RYT-300 hr).
During my "me time" I enjoy spending time making memories with my daughter & husband, photography, stand up paddle boarding (SUP), drawing, yoga, pilates, cooking yummy food, walking my dog and many other soul nourishing activities.
